Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) and the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) awarded Discovery Point Conyers an Early Language and Literacy Classroom Grant. The grant, totaling $80,000, is for four classrooms dedicated to infant and toddler care. The state will also provide infant and toddler specialist for teacher training.
According to DECAL Commissioner Amy Jacobs, the state-funded grant will help implement strong language and literacy instruction for children in the earliest, and most critical, years of life. More specifically, the grant will help meet a goal in Georgia set in 2011 by Governor Nathan Deal. That goal is for children to read at their grade level by the third grade. A quality early learning program that exposes young children to social interactions, language and literacy is critical.
